Trio arrested in Fleming Island auto burglaries

It was an eventful Monday morning in the Eagle Harbor community in Fleming Island, as Clay County Sheriff's Deputies chased two suspects wanted for a series of auto burglaries.

A third suspect was arrested early Monday morning.  The neighborhood is directly behind Fleming Island Elementary School.

"We had nearly two dozen deputies out searching", said Clay Sheriff's Office spokesperson Mary Justino.  "Our officers ended up in a foot pursuit with the two suspects and both were taken into custody.  All three have been taken to the Orange Park Operation Center", said Justino.

The trio will be facing several charges including auto burglary and fleeing and eluding.

"We're certainly looking into whether or not any homes were burglarized as well", Justino said.

The Sheriff's Office received a lot of calls from residents early Monday who were wondering what was the source of all the police activity.

"A quiet, affluent neighborhood where folks feel safe and secure and may leave their cars unlocked, who may have valuables worth stealing, that's where you're going to find that crimes like this occur", Justino said.
