At least 100 animals seized from Clay County property

CLAY COUNTY, FL. — Officials in Clay County are working to help at least 100 animals that were discovered at a home.

A warrant was served Monday morning as authorities responded to the 1-acre property on Old Jennings Road.

Clay County Sheriff Michelle Cook says they’re still early in the investigation but they found a wide range of animals like dogs, rabbits, chickens, “lots of puppies,” pregnant dogs, and more.

There will be multiple phases in the process of rescuing the animals. First crews will collect the animals, bring them to the Clay County Fairgrounds, and assess their health. Then they will be assigned to a new crate or stall, quarantined and monitored for the next 14 days, and be spayed and neutered. Lastly, the animals will eventually be put up for adoption.

For now, those looking to help can contact the Clay County call center to make a monetary donation at 877-252-9362. Also beginning at 10 a.m. Tuesday donations can be dropped off at the Clay County Fairgrounds. They’re asking for dry dog food, wet canned dog food, milk replacement, puppy pads, leashes and collars, spray bottles, cleaning wipes, dog toys (no rope toys), and dog shampoo.

They’ll also be asking for volunteers when it comes to caring for the animals later on.

Charges in the investigation are possible but they have not been filed at this time as details are still very limited. We’ll have more updates as they come.
