There’s nothing to worry about if you’re thinking about donating blood or in need of a blood donation. That’s the message from LifeSouth Community Blood Centers.
“We want people to know that just 45 minutes of your time can save three lives right here in our community,” says Karen Patterson, community development coordinator for LifeSouth.
She says there’s no risk whatsoever for someone looking to donate right after they’ve been vaccinated with any form of COVID-19 shot. In fact, people are still fine to donate if they’ve only received one dose of either the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine.
“As long as people are feeling well and in general good health, we encourage them to come and see us,” Patterson says.
LifeSouth has multiple ways to donate in Northeast Florida the donor centers are located at 7840 Baymeadows Way or 800 Prudential Dr. The Baymeadows location is open Monday through Friday, and you can donate Monday, Wednesday or Friday at the other location.
You can also look for the bloodmobile for a quick, pop-up location.
“Unfortunately, when COVID first started our donations fell about 50 percent,” Patterson says. “Even right now as the situation continues to evolve, they’re still down about 20 percent.”
