After a standoff, Jacksonville police arrested a man Wednesday wanted for the high-profile murder of a prominent Atlanta club owner in 2023.
Police from Jacksonville and Atlanta and U.S. marshals used an energetic door breach to grab Jonathan Soto, 43, from inside an apartment on Gate Parkway North.
Soto was one of the Atlanta Police Department’s most wanted for the highly publicized murder in 2023 of Michael Gidewon, 50, a co-owner of the popular Republic Lounge in Atlanta.
Soto has been booked into the Duval County Jail, police said in a news release.
The murder in February 2023 occurred after an individual was escorted out of the popular nightclub after an argument and due to intoxication, police said.
According to reports, the same man return with a gun and shot Gidewon dead outside the club at 7 a.m..
Following the tragedy, Republic Lounge announced its permanent closure via social media, stating “RIP @REPUBLICATL 2019-2023″
Soto was identified by Atlanta police as a suspect.
The Gidewon family had offered a reward of up to $250,000 for information leading to his capture.
