For the second time in just a few weeks, a person enjoying Jacksonville’s beaches is sent to the hospital with an apparent shark bite.
A Georgia teen was swimming off the coast of Jacksonville Beach between 9th and 11th Ave South with friends when she was bit in the foot. Rescue workers report those injuries are consistent with a shark bite.
Earlier this month a surfer was bit off Atlantic Beach.
Area lifeguards tell our partner Action News the key to prevent yourself from becoming a victim is to stay calm.
“If you do see a fin in the water, something you may be suspicious of, don’t panic and flail your arms and make a bunch of noise- just slowly make your way out of the water,” Captain Thomas Wright tells Action News.
Both bite victims are expected to recover.
