Jacksonville, FL — It was meant to serve as a flexible schooling option to students who have withdrawn from traditional schools, but Catapult Learning is closing its doors in Jacksonville.
A Duval County Public Schools spokesperson tells WOKV, the district and Catapult were not able to come to terms for a new contract. Catapult’s current contract is slated to expire on August 31st, 2018.
At this time, the district has not specified what terms were being disputed, only saying Catapult opted not to seek renewal.
Meanwhile, a letter sent out to parents last week says the decision to close down local operations was mutual between Catapult and DCPS, with their focus now on making sure the approximately 600 students impacted have the best transition possible.
Catapult's students range in age from 16 to 21, in grades 9 through 12.
With the closure, DCPS is providing Catapult students an opportunity to select an academic option for the upcoming school year
Parents tell me they’re frustrated that a #Jacksonville learning academy is closing its doors, displacing 600 students. They got this letter last week saying DCPS and Catapult Learning mutually decided to end their relationship @ActionNewsJax pic.twitter.com/xReoENlGu5

A @DuvalSchools spokesperson says they couldn’t come to terms for a new contract. I’ve got calls out to DCPS and Catapult to learn exactly what those terms were and will have the story on CBS47 FOX30 at 6 @ActionNewsJax https://t.co/RRA59bl70X
