ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — The city of St. Augustine is asking residents to help it name public land on Fish Island Drive near Fish Island Preserve, a 62-acre, city-managed public park.
The Fish Island Community Alliance in 2024 gave the land a working name of Stone Cutter’s Creek Park, but Vice Mayor Barbara Blonder requested the property be formal named.
So, the city through September 25 is soliciting suggestions for naming of the property at 865 Fish Island Drive.
A committee composed of one representative each from the Planning and Building, Public Works, and Communications Departments will review the public input, summarize the suggestions, and make a recommendation to the City Manager.
The City Manager will offer the recommended name to the City Commission for consideration and adoption during the currently scheduled regular City Commission meeting on Monday, October 12.
According to the resolution, suggestions should consider neighborhood or geographical identification, natural or geological features, a place or event of historical or cultural significance, the articulated preference of residents of the neighborhood surrounding the space, or a deceased person or persons who has made significant and outstanding contributions of public service to the community.
