Jacksonville, Fl. — Dash Cameras are an accessory you would normally find in many police cruisers, but Consumer Warrior Clark Howard says you should get one for your car.
If you’re unfamiliar with dash cameras, Clark describes them as a little camera that mounts on your windshield. He says they typically use a low-cost SD card which may come with the camera. You can plug them into your USB or cigarette lighter in your car, and it will continuously loop record video.
"If you been in an accident and you have a record of what really happen, people's recollection many times in good faith of what happened in an accident can vary enormously from what each driver say and even what witnesses say."
Clark says the video is a “fantastic protection” for you in the event you’re in an accident because it will be able to document everything that happens to back up your story.
Clark also recommends dash-cams if you have a new driver in the family such as a teenager.
“There are now expensive dash cams that cost several hundred dollars that monitor what your teen is doing behind the wheel in addition to what’s going on around that vehicle.”
Clark says with the most sophisticated, you can get alerts in real time about what your child is doing behind the wheel.
