Clark Howard: What you need to know after Facebook’s latest security breach

Jacksonville, FL — Facebook recently announced that a hack that compromised at least 50 million of its users that could also have given the hackers access to other apps.

It’s a security issue that has captured the attention of Consumer Warrior Clark Howard. Clark is urging all Facebook users to rethink about the way they use the social media site and their account information.

"Take this as a warning."

Clark says even if some users didn’t get the message from Facebook alerting them their accounts were one of the millions compromised – they’re not out of the woods just yet. He suggests changing your password and creating your own personal account for the websites you have linked to your Facebook account.

"There's too much risk. You're giving criminals the keys to the kingdom, they break into your Facebook they then have access to all these other accounts of yours that you've signed into through Facebook."

Clark says the username or passwords for your social media accounts should not be the same as your financial account information. Clark says hackers trying to get into your social media account is just the beginning.

Clark says criminals are ultimately after money and the most direct path to that is by hacking someone’s bank open. Clark if someone has the same log-in information as their bank account login then they are leaving themselves open and vulnerable.

He recommends not using the same username and passwords to other unrelated accounts because it could lead to trouble that you do not cause but suffer the results of.
