Clay County Schools raise meal prices

Jacksonville, Fl. — The last time the district increased the meal price was the 2012-2013 school year.

The district says increasing meal prices will bring Clay County Schools in compliance with the Paid Lunch Equity Provision (PLE). The provision requires local food service authorities to continually increase meal prices until they reach the Federal free rate of reimbursement, currently at $3.16.

The school system says a meal price increase will assist in their continued effort to improve food quality and absorb an increase in overall food prices.

“In addition, we need to ensure revenue is generated to replace aging equipment that markets our program and provides an aesthetically pleasing environment to the students of Clay County.”

The district says meals prices in Clay County have been significantly below average. The increase for 2017-2018 will bring the district more in line with average meal prices in Florida and allow for continual improvement in the program.
