Jacksonville, FL — Be on alert--- Clay Electric Cooperative is warning it's members about a recent spike in scam calls and misleading offers.

The utility says one of the most recent scams involves a flyer in the mail that claims Clay Electric is offering rebates for free attic insulation. The flyer states that as part of this rebate a free inspection is required and comes with a business reply envelope, but Clay Electric says it's all a scam.

Clay Electric says they've also received a report from a member in Keystone Heights about a phone call that identified itself on caller ID as originating from Clay Electric, but it was not actually one of their numbers.

Derick Thomas, director of the co-op's Member and Public Relations Department says, "We especially urge our members to ignore suspicious requests for personal information, such as bank account numbers, credit card numbers, user names and passwords, or Social Security numbers."

Clay Electric says you if you're suspicious of calls or any mail you receive from someone claiming to be with the company, call them at 800-224-4917.
