DIA signs off on $2.4 million for project to renovate the Jones Brother Furniture Building

Jacksonville, FL — It's another plan to bring some new life into downtown Jacksonville.

On Wednesday, the City of Jacksonville Downtown Investment Authority approved nearly $2.4 million to go toward a plan that would renovate the property commonly known as the Jones Brother Furniture Building.

The historic building--which is currently sitting empty--was built in 1926 at 520 North Hogan Street. The project would also include the building right next door at 502 North Hogan Street.

A developer hopes to turn the property into a mixed use area, with both residential and commercial space. Specifically, the plan is to build 28 new apartment units and set aside 10,247 square feet for retail space and another 1,040 square feet for office space.

In all, the project is expected to cost $11.1 million, but before it can move forward, it needs approval from City Council.
