Early voting underway in Duval County for the first unitary election

Jacksonville FL — 19 early voting locations are now open and welcome voters who want to cast their ballot ahead of election day for the first unitary election in Duval County.

Supervisor of Elections Mike Hogan says typically on the first day of early voting they see a lot of interest from voters, then it drops a couple of days later but picks back up again during the first weekend. Most early voting locations will be open from 10 AM until 6 PM in the evening from Monday, March 6th through Sunday, March 19th. Hogan says the last two days of early voting are typically busy.

“Those are the big days”. Hogan says.

Hogan says the supervisor’s office always encourages people to vote during the early voting period since if there is a problem, they have time to fix the issue.

“But election day still seems to be the main like for the, for the voter”. Hogan says.

For this first election, Hogan expects about 35% turnout, which, if that number holds, would be an increase from the last two first elections in 2015 and 2019. Turnout in the first election in 2015 was 33.7% and in 2019 it was 24.5%.
