CLAY COUNTY, Fla. — Clay County Fire Rescue personnel rescued an elderly woman trapped upstairs in her burning home during a severe thunderstorm.
The agency described the initial emergency call it received. “During a severe thunderstorm, our Communications specialists received a 911 call from an elderly woman who reported that her home was on fire and she was trapped upstairs,” Clay County Fire Rescue said in a statement.
Authorities praised communications specialists who maintained contact with the trapped resident while dispatching emergency units and relaying updates to the firefighters at the scene.
The agency said firefighters encountered severe weather, dense smoke and intense heat throughout the rescue operation.
“Working together, firefighters battled the fire, located the woman and safely removed her from the home before providing advanced medical care,” the agency said.
Following the rescue, county officials formally honored the first responders and dispatch personnel. “The Clay County Board of County Commissioners proudly recognized members of Engine 23, Engine 11, Rescue 11, Rescue 23, Tender 23 and Communications for their roles in this lifesaving response,” Clay County Fire Rescue stated.
The agency commended the personnel involved, thanking them for their “courage, professionalism, dedication and teamwork,” and for being there when a community member was in need.
