ELSA: Closures, cancellations, resources

Jacksonville, Fl — As Elsa approaches NE Florida, WOKV is updating a list of closures and cancellations.

Northeast Florida:

DUVAL COUNTY: All city-operated camps and Duval School summer-related camps will be closed on Wednesday only.

The Boys & Girls Club of Northeast Florida is closing its camp Wednesday.

JEA will close its lobby on Wednesday, and will discontinue service cutoffs through Thursday.

The Sulzbacher Center will provide shelter Tuesday and Wednesday night.

City Rescue Mission says its increasing its overnight capacity as well as extending hours for those seeking shelter. Guests seeking safe shelter may check-in to City Rescue Mission’s New Life Inn at 234 W. State Street, Jacksonville, FL 32202, beginning, Wednesday, July 7 at 11 a.m. The overflow shelter will remain open until conditions are deemed safe.

Due to Tropical Storm Elsa, Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens Summer Camps are cancelled for July 7, 2021. We will resume normal camp operations on July 8, 2021. As of 4pm, all other business operations will remain open until further notice.

The Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens will be closed to the public on Wednesday, July 7, 2021.

Jacksonville International Airport says if you have travel plans on Wednesday 7/7, please be sure to check with your airline for the most updated flight information prior to coming to the airport. As a reminder, the airport remains open as long as airlines continue flying.

All CareerSource of Northeast Florida’s Career Centers and Offices will be closed Wednesday. Centers and offices will reopen Thursday.

All YMCA summer day camps are cancelled for, July 7, for Baker, Clay, Duval, Nassau and St. Johns Counties in anticipation of the impact of Tropical Storm Elsa. We plan to resume day camp as normal on Thursday, July 8.

Jacksonville University will close to commuter traffic on Wednesday, July 7. All classes and work will be remote-only for the day.

Nova Southeastern University is suspending all classes and activities at its Jacksonville Campus Wednesday, July 7. The campus is anticipated to resume normal operations Thursday, July 8. Students, faculty, and staff at this campus location should be finalizing their storm preparations at this time and check

Wednesday’s game between the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp and Charlotte Knights has been postponed. The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader beginning at 5:05 p.m. on Thursday, with both contests seven innings in length. Gates will open at 4:30 p.m., and tickets for Thursday’s game will be good for both games of the twin bill. Tickets to Wednesday’s postponed game may be exchanged in-person (hours listed below) or over the phone at (904) 358-2846 at the Miller Electric Box Office for a ticket of equal or lesser value to any remaining 2021 regular season home game, subject to availability.


CLAY COUNTY:

Clay County School District: All summer programs including meal services and extracurricular activities will be CANCELED tomorrow, July 7th, due to inclement weather expected from Elsa. All schools and district offices will be closed. We look forward to reopening on Thursday, July 8th.

Clay County Board of County Commissioners government offices and facilities will reopen and resume normal operations today, Wednesday, July 7, at 1 p.m.

This includes the County Administration Building, Tax Collector Office, and Property Appraiser Office. The Supervisor of Elections Office will open at noon today.

The Town of Orange Park, City of Keystone Heights, and City of Green Cove Springs will also reopen at 1 p.m. today, July 7. The Town of Penney Farms is currently open.

The Clay County Courthouse and Clerk of Court and Comptroller’s Office are open and operating normal business hours.

Clay District Schools and all campuses will remain closed today, Wednesday, July 7.

All public library branches will open at noon today, July 7, and resume regular business hours, until 8 p.m. tonight.

The shelter at Clay County Animal Services will be closed all day on Wednesday, July 7, resuming normal operations on Thursday, July 8.

All reservations for cabin rentals and overnight stays at Camp Chowenwaw County Park have been canceled through Wednesday, July 7. The pool at Camp Chowenwaw is closed and the YMCA day camp is canceled for Wednesday.

The Rosemary Hill Solid Waste Management Facility will open at noon today, and operate normal business hours until 5:30 p.m. The Environmental Convenience Centers are normally closed on Wednesday and will open on Thursday, July 8, as regularly scheduled.

Waste Management will not be collecting garbage, recyclables, and yard waste on Wednesday, July 7, due to predicted heavy rains, winds, and possible street flooding. Collection will resume on Thursday, July 8, beginning with Wednesday’s routes. Anticipate a one-day delay in the collection schedule for garbage and recycling. Thursday’s routes will be collected on Friday, and Friday’s routes will be collected on Saturday.

Keystone Heights City Hall will be closed until noon on Wednesday, July 7th.

Nassau County:

Nassau County School District: All Nassau County Schools summer programs are canceled for July 7, 2021 in anticipation of the impact of Tropical Storm Elsa. This includes Minds on a Mission, ESY, VPK, STARRS Summer Camp, and all other extracurricular activities. Twelve-month employees should report to work as normal or take leave according to district procedures.

City of Fernandina Beach: Due to Tropical Storm Elsa, there will be no curbside collection service on Wednesday, July 7 for Waste Management customers in the City of Fernandina Beach. Residential customers will be serviced on a one-day delay the remainder of the week (Wednesday customers will be serviced Thursday, Thursday customers will be serviced Friday, and Friday customers will be serviced Saturday).

St. Johns County:

The St. Johns County Public Library Bookmobile will be cancelling stops at the Publix at Nocatee Town Center, and the Publix at Palencia Commons on Wednesday, July, 7. All items placed on hold or due for return at these stops will be extended to the next scheduled stop date on Wednesday, July 14.

State of Florida:

Florida Forest Service:

The Florida Forest Service says all campgrounds & recreation areas on State Forests in the path of Tropical Storm Elsa are CLOSED.

St. Johns River Water Management District:

The St. Johns River Water Management District will close its public lands and all offices north of I-4 on Wednesday in anticipation of effects from Tropical Storm Elsa. Closures are effective at 5 p.m. today. (Tuesday)

Federal closures:

North Florida/South Georgia Veterans Health System (NF/SGVHS) is taking necessary safety measures in advance of Tropical Storm Elsa. The following NF/SGVHS Facilities will be closed on Wednesday July 7, 2021.

  • Ocala CBOC (and Ocala West Specialty)
  • Palatka CBOC
  • Perry CBOC
  • St. Augustine CBOC
