Jacksonville, FL — It's going to be a hot start to the work week, after a break over the weekend. Action News Jax Chief Meteorologist Mike Buresh says 'feels-like' temps soar to 102 - 107 today, and it could be stormy in spots.
“Temperatures top out near 95 and with high humidity, that’s going to be a very unstable air mass this afternoon. So look for some slow moving storms that will be capable especially of producing high winds and frequent lightning, but a few of the storms could also produce some strong winds”, Buresh said.
Our storms increase by the middle and end of the week, as we closely monitor the Gulf of Mexico for possible tropical development.
“This scenario no matter how intense it would be, this system would not necessarily be so significant for Jacksonville and NE Florida. Some enhancement of the tropical moisture and heavy rain potential but it looks like we were going to have showers and storms anyway”, Buresh said.
An area of low pressure should gradually move south into the Gulf of Mexico. If it develops into a named system it would be Barry.
There is a high probability (80%) that a tropical depression is likely to form by the end of the week over the northern Gulf of Mexico. This system also has the potential to produce heavy rainfall along portions of the northern and eastern U.S. Gulf Coast later this week. pic.twitter.com/fm8BnAh26O
