Morning showers shift inland by the afternoons First Alert Meteorologist Trevor Gibbs is tracking some rain this week but plenty of dry time.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — This morning is partly cloudy and mild with temperatures in the 70s.

  • A few showers over the Atlantic will come onshore this morning bringing a few heavy downpours to our coastal counties.
  • By the afternoon, any rain will be moving well inland past Highway 301 and toward I-75 where there could be additional rounds of heavy rain, frequent lightning, and gusty winds.
  • A lot of dry hours for the I-95 corridor this afternoon.
  • The weather pattern is similar through much of this week with a few coastal showers in the morning, with inland storms in the afternoon.
  • Onshore winds will maintain an elevated rip current risk at our local beaches this week.
  • Temperatures each afternoon will be in the 80s along the beaches and low to middle 90s inland.
  • 96 days in Jacksonville at/above 90° this year puts us in 12th place on the list of years with most 90° days. 2026 will rise into the “Top 10” this week.

TROPICS:

  • No threats to our local area.
  • Invest 97L offshore Louisiana will likely become a tropical depression or tropical storm today. It will move inland over eastern Texas or western Louisiana by tomorrow evening.
  • Small and compact systems such as this can strengthen (and weaken) quickly.
  • Hurricane hunters are scheduled to fly into this system this morning.
  • The next name is Edouard.
  • The remnants of Dolly, now a tropical wave, are bringing beneficial rains to Puerto Rico. The moisture from this system will approach Florida later this week, but there are no indications right now of re-development.
