First Alert Weather: Wet weekend at times ahead of nor’easter next week

Very wet week of weather ahead First Alert Meteorologist Trevor Gibbs is tracking several rounds of rain on the way.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — This morning temperatures are warm in the 70s with a few showers in Putnam County.

  • Grounds are damp after a widespread 1-2″ of rain across many areas yesterday.
  • Today will be warm and humid with highs in the 80s and some spotty showers and storms.
    • Not everyone will see rain today, and coverage will be a little less along the I-95 corridor today.
    • Inland communities west of Highway 301 and north into southeast Georgia have a higher chance of heavier rain today.
  • Sunday will feature another round of showers and storms, primarily in the afternoon and evening.
    • Some of this rain will be very heavy and will likely cause at least some minor flooding in a few places.
  • A slow-moving front will move across our area Monday.
    • This front will bring another round of showers and thunderstorms, some heavy.
  • An area of low pressure will develop along that front Monday into Tuesday, beginning a nor’easter for our region.
    • Prolonged gusty onshore winds (25-40 mph) and rounds of heavy rain (some torrential) will lead to a soggy and unsettled few days across our area.
    • While all the rain will be very beneficial, too much in too little time will increase the concern for flooding.
    • Not out of the question that some neighborhoods see more than 6″ of rain before all is said and done.
  • Very rough beach weather is expected Tuesday-Thursday.
