Florida’s commissioner of education looking for feedback during Monday stop in St. Johns County

If you’re looking to provide input on what should change in Florida’s education standards, Monday is your chance.

Florida Commissioner of Education Richard Corcoran will hold a stop for his Florida Standards Listening tour at Liberty Pines Academy in St. Johns County.

Governor Ron DeSantis issued an executive order in January to make sure Florida has the best academic standards in the nation by eliminating Common Core and preparing students for the job market. That left Corcoran with the job of reviewing the academic standards for kindergarten through 12th grade.

The Department of Education released a draft of the revised standards at the start of the month after feedback from teaching professionals.

“Our team has been working tirelessly on the revised draft, and we truly appreciate all of the input we have received from Floridians thus far,” Corcoran says. “Success is our standard and we are looking forward to hosting the upcoming listening tour to ensure that Florida has the best academic standards in the nation.”

Monday’s meeting in St. Johns County will be held from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., but doors open at 5 p.m.
