Former Clay County teacher pleads guilty to child pornography charge

Jacksonville Federal Courthouse (Action News)

A former Clay County teacher has pleaded guilty to distributing a video online that shows a young child being sexually abused.

WOKV first reported in September about the arrest of 50-year-old Christopher Potter. He has been in custody since that arrest, and now faces at least five years in prison.

Potter was accused of responding to an online notice purported to be from a 14-year-old child, who was actually an undercover Orange Park Police Department officer. Prosecutors say Potter spoke online with that undercover officer, including requesting photos and talking about meeting who he thought was a child for sex. Those conversations started in February 2018, according to court records.

A search of Potter’s home last September uncovered multiple child pornography videos. Investigators say Potter admitted to fantasizing about sexual acts with young girls.

Potter was a teacher at Orange Park High School from 1997-2004 and then taught at Clay High School 2016-2017.
