St. Augustine, Fl. — Florida Power and Light is raising a 55-foot, 9,000 lb., power pole in St. Augustine on Thursday, to boost reliability during storms and strengthen the power grid.
The investment will benefit more than 2,200 customers and four schools in St. Augustine, one of the areas his hardest by Hurricane Matthew in 2016.
“It’s part of a pretty extensive plan that we’ve been working on for years,” Chris McGrath, a spokesperson for FPL, said. “This was a community that was affected, pretty significantly, by Hurricane Matthew. We saw that all of the lines that we’ve hardened, so to speak, performed 30 percent better than the lines that we have not hardened.”
The pole is going up at 470 Ravenswood Dr.
