Gov. Ron DeSantis signs bill allowing smokable medical marijuana in Florida

The ban on smokable medical marijuana in Florida has been lifted after Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a bill into law today.

DeSantis had asked lawmakers to pass the bill, and it made it through the House last week. It was passed by the Senate before that.

Voters in the state decided to allow medical marijuana back in 2016, but it remained illegal to smoke the substance until today. That's because lawmakers voted to ban smokable marijuana in a bill that was signed by Rick Scott in 2017.

Even though it's now legal to smoke marijuana with a prescription, it's still illegal for anyone who is under 18 who is not terminally ill with permission from two doctors. One of those doctors has to be a pediatrician, and they both have to say it's the most effective form of treatment.

You'll also have to follow public smoking laws regarding cigarettes if you have a prescription and want to light up. Owners of private property have the right to ban smokable medical marijuana if they want to.

Patients also cannot have more than four ounces of smokable medical marijuana at a time.
