Governor Ron DeSantis has announced his long-rumored bid for President in a Tweet after a planned live stream on Twitter alongside the company’s CEO Elon Musk failed to air.
Yesterday, the Governor received this year’s election bill, which includes changes to ensure DeSantis can enter into the race without having to leave his current post. He signed the legislation ahead of the announcement. He also filed his official paperwork today, a formality required to allow him to solicit donations from supporters over the coming days.
UCF political science professor Dr. Aubrey Jewett says the goal will be to collect as much money as possible, ahead of a more public and traditional-looking campaign launch in the Governor’s hometown of Dunedin next week. “And it’s an opportunity to sort of jump start, kick start their campaign. They’ve raised a lot of money already. I mean, he’s got $100 million in the bank already in his political action committee. So, they have raised quite a bit of money already. But of course, if you’re running a national race that money goes by pretty quick.”
Florida’s First Lady Casey DeSantis posted a campaign video yesterday containing the line, “Is it worth the sacrifice? America has been worth it every single time.” A text prompt in the video signs you up for texts from “Ron DeSantis for President.”
