UF Health Jacksonville preparing for surge of coronavirus cases in 10-15 days

Jacksonville, FL — The CEO of UF Health Jacksonville told Jacksonville’s Morning News that there is currently plenty of bed space, and they monitor the numbers every day.

Dr. Leon Haley says a predictive analysis tool from the University of Pennsylvania suggests the next 10-15 days is when the area would see a surge in hospitalized people, if preventive measures are not effective.

“Preparation for us means making sure we’ve got all the available bed space. We’ve identified certain units in our hospital that will be the COVID-19 unit where we will take care of our patients. We will have a set of staff that will be designated to take care of them primarily”, said Dr. Haley.

Earlier this week the CEO’s of Jacksonville’s hospitals released a statement that they are all working together to manage coronavirus cases, personal protective equipment, and access to testing.

“We have enough (PPE) for based upon where we project our volume to be right this minute”, Dr. Haley said.  They have several orders in place for N-95 masks and other equipment.

Dr. Haley says the staff is stressed, and have their personal lives to manage, but have come together to be supportive of each other.
