An Arlington couple was forced to fight after an intruder broke into their home Friday morning, according the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
JSO said the homeowner retrieved a gun and fatally shot the suspect.
The intruder broke into the back of the house along Seabrook Cove Road in Arlington around 6:30 a.m.
Police said the suspect had some kind of baseball bat or stick with him and used the weapon to beat the couple before the shooting.
JSO believes the couple’s grandchild was also in the house during the incident, but the child was not harmed.
The man and the woman were both taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
WOKV was on scene when the paramedics loaded the woman into an ambulance and sped away from the house.
Police are waiting for their injuries to be treated before they ask for permission to enter the house and continue the investigation.
