The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department is offering free battery-powered smoke alarms and installation for qualifying Jacksonville residents in single-family and two-family homes.
The department is also providing free replacement batteries for existing smoke alarms at no charge.

Fire safety officials emphasized that smoke alarms save lives by giving residents sufficient warning to escape a burning structure.
Due to limited resources, not every applicant will meet the criteria for the service. Exclusions from the program include commercial businesses, contractors, and rental properties.

Businesses, organizations and individuals looking to help prevent residential fire deaths through increased smoke alarm use can contribute to the Mayor’s Home Fire Safety Program.
Safe Kids of Northeast Florida and Wolfson Children’s Hospital serve as donating partners to the initiative.
