Jacksonville, FL — A Jacksonville man will spend the rest of his life in prison, after pleading guilty to second-degree murder.

That's the sentence handed down to Lorenzo Alston, 24, after a shooting at a gas station, north of downtown back in May 2016. He pleaded guilty to the crime in September 2017.

According to a release from the State Attorney Melissa Nelson's office, Alston approached a vehicle at the gas station and spoke with the driver. He then went to his own car to retrieve an assault rifle.

Alston opened fire, shooting 9 times into the other vehicle, hitting both the driver and a passenger.

The passenger, identified by police as Jessica Daniel, died from her injuries.

Nelson's office says a community tip called into First Coast Crime Stoppers led to Alston's arrest. The whole incident was also caught on the gas station's surveillance system.
