Jacksonville woman accused of leaving child in filthy home alone to go use drugs

Jasmine Aikens

Jacksonville, FL — Accused of leaving a child alone in a filthy home, while she doing drugs.

26-year-old Jasmine Aikens has been arrested for child neglect following an investigation that started Sunday. The arrest report says a complainant spoke anonymously to JSO over the phone about a minor who was home along while the suspect “was out using drugs”. The complainant said the house was covered in filth, and that there were dirty diapers and feces on the ground. The home also had the appearance of being ransacked.

When JSO arrived, the victim- who’s age isn’t listed- answered, telling police that there had been nobody else in the home for several hours. The victim wasn’t sure when the suspect was supposed to be back home, but said she felt safe inside watching cartoons and had food and water.

Other people in the area who spoke anonymously to JSO said Aikens would “frequently” leave the victim home alone while going out with friends.

The arrest report says JSO entered the home and found it to be messy, with soiled diapers and clothes on the ground.

When an officer called Aikens, the arrest report says she initially stated she didn’t have any children and hung up. After repeated calls, the suspect eventually returned to the residence. She spoke with JSO, but her statements have been redacted from the arrest report.

The Florida Department of Children and Families has also been notified about this incident.
