Jacksonville woman arrested for ax attack that followed dominoes game

Jacksonville, FL — A Jacksonville woman has been arrested after attacking her roommate’s door with an ax.

The arrest report for 35-year-old Baraka Smith says she and her roommate were playing dominoes and drinking at their residence in the Argyle Forest area, when Smith became angry and started acting out. The victim says Smith scratched him and then grabbed a knife and started waving it around. The victim went to his bedroom and locked the door, but the arrest report says he then heard banging with what sounded like an ax. Investigators confirm they found damage to hallway walls and the bedroom door that’s consistent with an ax, and the ax and knife were found in a bathroom where Smith was locked in when JSO got on the scene.

The arrest report says the victim was able to get out through his bedroom window and call police from a neighbor’s house.

When Smith was being transported to jail, the arrest report says she told them to ask her roommate how he was scratched, and that he was within “two minutes of losing his life”.

For this incident, Smith has been arrested for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill. Jail and court records show she has also been charged with battery on a first responder, although details immediately connected to that were redacted from Smith’s arrest report.
