The coronavirus pandemic hit the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens pretty hard this year, and now they’re looking for financial help from the community.
The zoo says it lost $6 million because it was forced to close for two months amid the outbreak. In an effort to raise money to feed and care for more than 2,000 animals and more than 1,000 plant species, the zoo is holding a Zoo-A-Thon through Sept. 20 with the goal of raising $250,000.
The money will also go toward the zoo’s efforts to be a recreation, education and conservation resource for the community.
