JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jaguars had the opportunity to seize a three-game lead with a divisional matchup against the Colts and the Texans on a bye week. And they did just that, trouncing the Colts 42-7, extending their home win streak against Indianapolis to 12 games.
Trevor Lawrence didn’t have to do a whole lot, throwing just 14 passes, but he was as efficient as ever. Three of Lawrence’s 10 completions on the day were touchdowns, averaging 21.0 yards per reception. It was another short day for him as Coen decided to rest him after the third quarter.
Over his last 17 games, Lawrence has tallied 44 total touchdowns to just 11 interceptions, alongside a 14-3 record. He’s one of just five active quarterbacks to post 44+ touchdowns and 14+ wins across a 17-game sample. The other four have all won MVP awards.
Jaguars’ Bhayshul Tuten finally had his much-deserved breakout game, gaining 159 yards and two touchdowns from scrimmage. He’s now on pace for 1600+ scrimmage yards and 15 touchdowns on the season. He’s been among the NFL’s best at creating yards for himself, and he added to that with a highlight-worthy TD run of 39 yards.
Tuten ranks fifth in missed tackles forced (43), fifth in AVG yards after contact (3.9), and first in rushes of 15+ MPH. Over the last two games, he’s also become an asset in the passing game, adding 103 yards and three touchdowns as a receiver.
On the defensive side of things, the Jaguars’ ability to pressure quarterbacks and force ill-advised decisions is simply second nature. The Jaguars’ five red zone takeaways and seven takeaways off pressure both rank best in the NFL.
No matter how good Trevor Lawrence or the Jaguars’ offense is, a defense that allows just 15.9 points per game and forces nearly two turnovers a game is gonna help the Jags win a lot of games.
The Jaguars now travel to a Lamar Jackson-less Baltimore Ravens on a shortened week for primetime Thursday Night Football. It could be the night where these cats show everyone just how different these Jaguars really are on national television.
