St. Johns County School District draft back to school plan

St. Johns Schools Draft Model

Jacksonville, FL — The St. Johns County School District has released a draft plan for the 2020/2021 school year with several options based on coronavirus cases.

Superintendent Tim Forson said the plan has not been formally approved, and includes three separate learning models depending on the severity of COVID-19 cases.

Here is an explanation of the draft academic model plans, provided by School Board Member Beverly Slough:

If there is low to no spread, all students would be in school.

If the number of cases increased and there was the need to move into the tan section, elementary students would still go to school each day. They would stay in their classroom and interact with other students as little as possible. Secondary students would shift to an A/B schedule where half of the students (possible last names A-L) went to school Monday & Thursday, the other half of the students went to school Tuesday & Friday, and they all were taught through distance learning on Wednesdays. They would work independently on the other 2 days that they were at home during the week. The A/B schedule is ONLY for secondary students.

There could also be a short period when distance learning for all students may be needed in a particular area or particular school, if there was an increased number of cases.

Parents can expect to receive a survey this week. Families will also be asked to confirm their intent to return to school during the week of June 29 - July 3.
