JSO makes arrests in two separate fatal shootings

Catoma Street shooting (Action News Jax)

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office has arrested a known gang member for murder and, separately, a man accused of shooting another in the back- as part of two separate investigations that have been taking place.

37-year-old Derrick Hill was fatally shot on Fleming Street in late October. JSO says he and 31-year-old James Dantzler were at a street party when they got in a fight. Hill started to walk away, and Dantzler allegedly shot him in the back. JSO says Dantzler was taken in to custody by SWAT today without incident.

Separately, a member of the Rollin 20s gang has been arrested for a murder that happened last December, and police say more arrests could be coming.

33-year-old Hason Smiley is accused of luring Ramon Anderson to a home under construction on Catoma Street. JSO says this was a robbery-turned-murder that involved other suspects.

Smiley is already in jail on other violent crime offenses, including armed robbery and attempted murder.
