JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Jacksonville Sheriff T.K. Waters announced the arrest of Patrol Officer Michael Schrum on one count of domestic battery. Schrum was charged with the first-degree misdemeanor following an internal investigation into an incident reported earlier in the week, Waters said at a news conference Wednesday.
The victim, who is in a domestic relationship with Schrum, reported the incident on Tuesday, Water said. The battery occurred on Sept. 16 when Schrum was intoxicated, became enraged and struck the victim multiple times, causing visible injuries, according to investigators.
JSO’s Integrity Unit launched an investigation after receiving the report. Detectives arrested Schrum on Tuesday evening and he was immediately stripped of his police authority, Water said adding that JSO will seek Schrum’s termination.
The case marks the ninth arrest of a JSO employee by the agency this year.
