Latest ever recorded 97 degree day in Jacksonville on Thursday

Jacksonville, FL — The first week of Fall has felt anything but Autumn-like with record hot temperatures.  Thursday afternoon’s high temperature of 97 degrees at Jacksonville International Airport was the latest 97 degree temperature reading in recorded history in Jacksonville.

Today’s high is forecast at 93, which is just shy of the 1970 record of 94.   By the weekend it’s not as hot, with temperatures in the mid and upper 80’s as a result of a wind shift off the Atlantic. There may also be a few brief, isolated showers at times this weekend but long hours of the weekend will be dry.

Action News Jax Chief Meteorologist Mike Buresh says Tropical Storm Karen is expected to weaken while turning west, and does not appear to be a threat to Jacksonville or any of Florida.
