Jacksonville, FL — The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office has not announced any new information about the suspected gunman who shot and killed a local marine at the Dream Arcade in Northwest Jacksonville on Wednesday night.
The girlfriend of the victim tells Action News Jax, the person who died is 47-year-old Douglas Cox and he was a marine.
"He died doing what he loved, being a savior, a hero to somebody."
She says Cox died after he jumped in front of a woman who worked at the Dream Arcade, taking a bullet for her. The woman says it wasn’t a surprise that he jumped in, saying Cox lived to protect people.
"That's the number one thing he wanted everybody to believe that he was someone good, and he was good."
According to the police report, when officers arrived at the scene the man was being treated for his injuries but did not make it. The report did not shed any new light on the suspect who is still believed to be at large. The information JSO released after the shooting was they were looking for a black man who was wearing all black clothing.
