If your daily commute involves heading into downtown Jacksonville, you should expect some closures starting the week of December 14th.
The Florida Department of Transportation says the Main Street will see closures daily Monday, December 14th, through Thursday, December 17th, between 9 AM- 4PM. This means drivers will be detoured to the Acosta Bridge instead. Marine traffic will not be impacted.
The bridge is being shut for routine maintenance, according to the FDOT. This includes replacing rivets under the machinery room, welding of the deck grating, among other maintenance needs.
The FDOT says this kind of routine maintenance helps extend the life of bridges.
