Major development in the works for Nassau County

Thousands of homes, several million square feet of commercial space, plus an elementary school.

Big changes are coming to Nassau County.

Crews have started working on Phase 1 of the Wildlight development, which will be off A1A and US 17.

While Phase 1 includes 1,000 homes and half a million square feet of commercial property for restaurants and shops, the big picture goes well beyond that.

Charles Adams VP, Community Development, Raydient Places + Properties VP Charles Adams tells our partner Action News Jax, "Wildlight in its entirety is about 2,900 acres and the build out of that is probably more like 3,000 residential properties and a few million square feet of commercial property."

A new elementary school with 600 seats is also being included in the community and is expected to be open by the next school year.

But all the changes will take some time. We're told the first phase of the development will take somewhere in the range of 8 to 10 years, with the other phase starting after that.
