Jacksonville, FL — A University of North Florida student has been arrested for allegedly trying to extort sex acts out of another student.
The arrest report for 21-year-old Jesse Martinez says the victim first came in contact with him through the app Grindr. The suspect was using the name “J”, and after chatting with the victim for awhile, he asked to exchange nude pictures. The arrest report says when the victim sent the pictures, “J” said he would release them on the internet if the victim did not meet him for oral sex.
The victim blocked J from contacting him, according to the arrest report, but the next day the victim was contacted through the app by a person going by the name “Mike”. “Mike” told the victim he had the nude pictures, and would release them “all over campus” unless the victim came to his dorm room to conduct a sex act.
The arrest report says the victim told the suspect he would get back to him, and then called police. An officer had the victim arrange a meeting with “Mike”, and “Mike” responded that a friend would be meeting the victim for sex, according to the report. Police say “Mike” sent a picture of that friend, and when that person- later identified as Martinez- arrived for the meeting, he was intercepted by law enforcement.
Police say Martinez admitted to setting up the fake profiles in order to meet people online, but he declined any further comment. Any later statements he made to investigators have been redacted.
Martinez has been arrested for threats with intent to extort and unlawful use of a two-way communication device.
