Man charged with armed robbery, battery

Jacksonville, FL — A man is in Clay County jail for an armed robbery and assault in Keystone Heights.

20-year-old James Martin is accused of beating a man outside the Keytstone Heights Town Hall Tuesday night following a verbal altercation with another man.

An arrest report states that the victim was standing on the sidewalk in front of the Keystone Nature Park, charging his cell phone, when he observed Martin across the street.

According to the victim, Martin began shouting and threatening him.  The suspect later walked toward the victim and demanded his cell phone.  That is when Martin began punching the victim on the back of his head, according to the report.

The victim was kicked multiple times between the legs, then had a gun pulled on him.  He was ordered to give the suspect his phone, wallet, and backpack.

Martin threw the phone to the ground, shattering the screen and breaking the phone into multiple pieces, according to the report. He then fled the scene.

Martin was later arrested at his home.  What he told deputies has been redacted from the arrest report.

Martin is charged with Armed Robber with a Deadly Weapon, Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon, and Criminal Mischief.
