Raymond Michael Brasiel, 20, faces murder charges in the death of 22 year-old Amber Whited. Brasiel was already in the Glynn County jail for a double stabbing that left another man dead.
Whited, a mother of two, was last seen on Tuesday leaving the Harley-Davidson store on Perry Lane Road where she worked as a salesperson.
Five days later, police found her body in a wooded area just off of Highway 99 and Bladen Road. According to the Glynn County Police Chief Matt Doering, detectives were in the area conducting interviews in the case when they noticed a trail that seemed out of place.
"They came to a stop sign and noticed a beat down trail that was freshly done into a ditch and it was wider than a normal person would be walking. As if maybe somebody dragged someone into the woods," Doering told our partner Action News.
News of her body being discovered left her family in tears.
"We want to wake up and know that this is a bad dream but dreams can't be this horrible," said Martha Allen, Whited's aunt.
Police searched the area on Sunday, and crime scene technicians took out bags of evidence from the woods.
"I'm comfortable from my observations, that she'd been there likely since Tuesday," Chief Doering said.
Whited's family says they just want answers.
"Why? That's all I want to know," said Jeremy Lott, brother.
According to Chief Doering, investigators have uncovered a motive but have not released those details. They also have yet to release details about the condition of Whited's body.
Whited's body will be taken to a crime lab in Savannah on Monday to begin the autopsy and positive identification.
