A person is in police custody after a shooting outside Nippers Beach Grille in Jacksonville Beach Thursday night.
Police said a group of men got into a fight around 8 p.m. outside the popular restaurant when one of them was fatally shot.
Police identified the victim as 40-year-old Zachariah James Tipton of Fernandina Beach.
Life Flight responded, but Tipton died on scene.
Police believe they caught the person responsible for the shooting. No charges were filed Thursday night and police have not released the person’s name.
WOKV is told Tipton likely arrived to the restaurant on a motorcycle for a Bike Night event.
Police ordered customers to stay inside the restaurant while they investigated the scene.
“It's unfortunate that certain people feel the need to solve all their problems with violence,” said Jacksonville Beach Police Chief Pat Dooley. “That's the sign of our times right now. It's horrible.”
Police said there are more than 200 potential witnesses and this is still an ongoing investigation.
