JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A man in his early 70s was killed after a crash on Roosevelt Boulevard Monday afternoon, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

According to JSO, around 5:45 p.m., the man was driving a gray Honda Accord southbound on Roosevelt Boulevard when he attempted to turn left onto Rensselaer Avenue.

Another vehicle, a silver Infiniti, was traveling northbound on Roosevelt Boulevard. The Infiniti tried to avoid the Honda but was unable to and struck it on the driver’s door. Both cars were pushed off the roadway, striking a light pole and fence.

JFRD transported both drivers to a local hospital. The driver of the Honda was later pronounced dead.

JSO says this is the 132nd traffic fatality in Duval County this year.

Traffic is currently affected on Roosevelt Boulevard while detectives investigate. JEA is working to remove the downed light pole.
