CLAY COUNTY, Fla. — A Middleburg man was arrested and charged with six counts of aggravated assault after threatening to shoot several people while walking along Short Horn Road, says the Clay County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO).
According to CCSO, deputies received calls regarding a man approaching vehicles, waving an AR-15-style rifle while walking on Short Horn Road. Calls continued, saying the man was threatening to shoot people and had several community members fearful for their lives.
36-year-old Anthony Hagan was identified as the suspect. CCSO patrol deputies, Task Force, and SWAT Units responded immediately and set up a perimeter around his home. Hagan got in his car and attempted to leave when SWAT members monitored his residence. Due to active charges against him and a potential threat to the community, SWAT members moved to stop him. Hagan was taken into custody after driving his car into a ditch where deputies surrounded him.
CCSO says Hagan was placed into custody without incident and is being charged with six counts of aggravated assault and has an outstanding warrant for trespassing.
Sheriff Michelle Cook shared a statement regarding Hagan’s arrest on social media:
“This is a prime example of how our patrol and specialty units work together to keep our community safe. We had a dangerous and erratic individual who posed a serious threat to our community; thanks to the quick response and coordination of our team, he was taken off our streets safely and promptly.”
CCSO says this investigation is ongoing and encourages anyone with information to contact them at 904-264-6512; you can also remain anonymous by submitting a SaferWatch tip or by calling First Coast Crime Stoppers by dialing **TIPS or texting SAFEFC to 738477.
