Middleburg man charged with animal cruelty for strangling girlfriend’s small dog on video

Man charged with animal cruelty for strangling girlfriend's dog.

MIDDLEBURG, Florida — A Middleburg man faces aggravated animal cruelty charges for strangling his girlfriend’s Dachshund-Chihuahua mix as he recorded it on his phone.

Police said Cole Daughtry, 25, bound the dog’s feet and muzzle with blue tape as he videoed with one hand and strangled the dog with the other.

The dog died, and Daughtry buried it in the woods, police said the suspect told them.

His girlfriend discovered what happened to her dog when she looked at videos on a phone the two shared, a Clay County Sheriff’s Department officer said in a report.

Police said they were able to identify the dog’s assailant by a gang-affiliated tattoo on his right hand, and another tattoo on his left hand that reads “2000 Baby.”

Both were visible in the video, which also showed Daughtry petting the dog at intermittent times.
