More record-challenging hot days ahead, active tropics

Jacksonville, FL — Expect to feel another record-challenging hot afternoon following a mild morning.  We tied a record high Tuesday afternoon, and we’re likely going to tie today’s record of 94 degrees, set in 1961.  Expect abundant sunshine all day as temps climb into the low 90’s at the beaches.

Action News Jax Meteorologist Garrett Bedenbaugh says we stay hot through Friday before southeasterly flow takes hold and cools us a bit through the weekend, bringing rain chances back.

In the Tropics, Karen is moving north of Puerto Rico and is expected to make a loop over the weekend while nearly reaching hurricane strength.  Jerry weakened to a post-tropical cyclone as it moves away from Bermuda. And Lorenzo has strengthened to a hurricane in the southeastern Atlantic.

Lorenzo is located about 640 miles west of the southernmost Cabo Verde Islands. The storm is moving to the west-northwest at 17 mph and has top sustained winds of 80 mph. Additional strengthening is forecast during the next couple of days.
