Jacksonville, FL — A Nassau County woman who pled guilty to a 2016 fatal DUI crash has now been sentenced to 30 years in prison.
Tonya Capallia-Eason learned her sentence Thursday, after changing her plea to guilty last month to two counts of DUI manslaughter and three counts of DUI resulting in serious bodily injury.
In 2016, Capallia-Eason was behind the wheel when her Ford Expedition slammed into a utility pole, after leaving a children's Halloween party.
Two of her sons-- 8-year-old Nehemiah Capallia-Bird and 9-year-old Nicholai Capallia-- were killed.
The crash injured 6 other children, including her daughter, who survived and was eventually released into the custody of her ex-husband.
Investigators previously said her blood-alcohol level was nearly twice the legal limit at the time of the crash with a toxicology report showing the level at .148.
A 30 year sentence is the maximum sentence Capallia-Eason faced after pleading guilty to the charges. She faced a minimum of 10 years.
She will get credit for time already served, however, once she’s released from prison, she will never be allowed behind the wheel again.
They said their surviving children are still haunted by the crash. @ActionNewsJax
