The Green Cove Spring Police Department is searching for a man who shot and killed a local grandmother.
Victor Lamar Cruger Jr., 25, is facing murder charges after he allegedly shot Ernestine Hines, 59, in the back of the head as she gave him a ride early Sunday.
Cruger’s grandmother, Evelyn Hampton-Jones, sent out an emotional plea for her grandson to turn himself in.
“It’s killing me, it’s killing me, this is your grandmother, this is your grandmother, give yourself up, honey,” Hampton-Jones said. “I raised him and I want him to call a pastor, call anyone, to help you.”
The victim’s daughter, Dallas Cooke says her family and the Crugers know each other.
“My mom was a 65-year-old mother, grandmother, wife, and to find out that she had been shot in the back of her head by a child was devastating,” Cooke said.
Cruger is 6 feet tall, 175 pounds, and has short dreads. He’s considered armed and dangerous.
Police are offering a $3,000 reward for a tip that could lead to his arrest.
