Jacksonville, FL — The attorney for a retired Jacksonville Sheriff's Office corrections officer accused of shooting his wife has now filed a 'Stand Your Ground' motion, according to Duval County court records.
WOKV first told you back on September 11th, when Irish Andrews, 52, was arrested for aggravated domestic battery with a deadly weapon. JSO reported that the victim, Andrews' longtime wife, had been shot multiple times at their home on Weeping Branch Circle. Andrews has since been charged with attempted murder.
But, in this ‘Stand Your Ground’ court motion, Andrews alleges that on the day of the shooting, he came home and immediately he and his wife got into a verbal altercation. The motion claims that she became hostile, violent, and was attempting to attack Andrews physically using a coat hanger.
The motion says Andrews was in fear for his safety, with the motion citing an alleged prior violent incident by the victim. However, at this time, WOKV has not been able to confirm any of the details or circumstances surrounding that incident.
The motion goes on to say that Andrews yelled for her to stop multiple times, but that she continued her 'violent assault.' That's when the motion says Andrews pulled out his firearm and fired four shots in self-defense. JSO previously said that the victim had life-threatening injuries from the shooting. It’s unclear what her current status is.
Andrews’ is due back in court next month, where a ‘Stand Your Ground’ hearing is scheduled to be set.
His mug shot is exempt from public release, because of his status as a retired officer.
