Sears distribution center in Jacksonville closing in April 2019

Jacksonville, FL — The Sears distribution center on Jacksonville's Northside will be closing next year.

A Sears Holdings spokesperson confirming to WOKV, the location on 1 Imeson Park Boulevard will be closing in mid-April 2019. An exact date hasn’t yet been released.

Until then, we're told the center will continue to operate and distribute products to Sears and Kmart stores, as usual. After its closure, the volume from this center will be transitioned to a center in Ocala.

Anyone affected by this closure will be eligible to receive severance, according to a spokesperson. Those affected will also have the opportunity to apply for open positions within the company.

FULL STATEMENT FROM SEARS HOLDINGS SPOKESPERSON: 

Sears Holdings is implementing a strategy to optimize our supply chain resources to meet the needs of our retail business and align with our forecasted volume. As part of this strategy, we have made the difficult but necessary decision to close our distribution center in Jacksonville, Fla. in mid-April. 2019. Until then, it will continue to operate and distribute products to our Sears and Kmart stores. The volume from this distribution center will be transitioned to the distribution center in Ocala, Fla.

Those associates who are eligible will receive severance and have the opportunity to apply for open positions in the company. The number of impacted associates is not available.
